Sickle cell is a disease that has killed many people in the world and the ministry of health inform the public to words the

Symptoms 

  • Anemia : sickle cell break apart easily and die typical red blood cells usually live for about 120 days before the need to be replaced. But sickle cell usually die in 10 to 20 days. Leaving a shortage of red blood cells
  • Episodes of pain : periodic episodes of extreme pain called pain crises.
  • Swelling of hands and feet
  • Frequent infections 
  • Delayed growth or puberty 
  • Vision problem
Complications 

  • Stroke 
  • Acute chest syndrome 
  • Vascular necrosis 
  • Pulmonary hypertension 
  • Organ damage 
  • Splenic sequestration 
  • Blindness 
  • Leg ulcers
  • Gallstones 
  • Priapism
  • Deep vein thrombosis 
  • Preqnancy complications 
In Uganda approximately 20%population carries the sickle cell.

The sick ones are 2-3%
